Detailed Itinerary

DAY
1

Fly into Leh via one of the most picturesque flights over the high Himalayas. Acclimatize yourself to the high altitude town of Leh, located at 3500m above sea level.

DAY
2

A day of sightseeing is on the cards. Visit the Shey Palace, the erstwhile residence of the royal family of Ladakh. Continue onto the Thiksey monastery complex, very reminiscent of the Potala in its structure. In the afternoon, you may want to explore the bustling bylanes of the local market, where ladies in traditional attire still sell homegrown organic vegetables.

DAY
3

Drive from Leh westwards to the Sham valley, visiting the oldest monastery in the region at Alchi. Drive further to Lamayuru, and visit the monastery perched on a craggy hilltop there. The monastery here was built in the 10th century and is worth a visit. Start your trek with a short hike to Wanla, over the Wan La (3750m) where you camp for the night.
Trek time - 3 hour

DAY
4

Your trek starts in earnest today, with a longer walk to the village of Hinju (3720m). The day's hike takes you through a number of quaint Ladakhi villages, and ends with making camp on the outskirts of Hinju, a beautiful village with stretches of barley fields. You are free to walk around the village and interact with local farmers for the remaining part of the day.
Trek time - 5/6 hours

DAY
5

A gradual ascent today brings to the ridge of the Kongskil La (4950 m), from where you have a gorgeous view of the Stok and Karakoram ranges. Descend the pass to arrive at the village of Sumdo Doksa (4430 m) where we camp for the night.
Trek time - 6 hours

DAY
6

We have a number of river crossings today- (take care to carry spare socks in your day pack), post which we gradually ascend to the base of Dung Dun Chan La (4430m).
Trek time - 5 hours

DAY
7

We climb straight up to Dung Dung Chan La, and descend to the village of Chiling (3550 m). Chiling is known for the copper work of its artisans, and it is worthwhile visiting the small museum here. Your vehicle will meet you here, and drive you to Leh.
