A moderately easy trek, this trek offers you not only breathtaking scenery, but also a chance to see some wildlife, as a major part of it cuts through the Hemis National Park.
Fly into Leh via one of the most picturesque flights over the high Himalayas. Acclimatize yourself to the high altitude town of Leh, located at 3500m above sea level.
A day of sightseeing is on the cards. Visit the Shey Palace, the erstwhile residence of the royal family of Ladakh. Continue onto the Thiksey monastery complex, very reminiscent of the Potala in its structure. In the afternoon, you may want to explore the bustling bylanes of the local market, where ladies in traditional attire still sell homegrown organic vegetables.
Drive to the village of Zinchen, the starting point of your trek, and walk to the picturesque village of Rumbak, where you camp for the night.
Trek time - 3/4 hour
A longer day's walk today, we start our trek after breakfast, walking gradually upwards initially. The trail becomes steeper towards Stok La (4900m), from which we get fantastic views of the surrounding valleys. Descend towards Mankarmo (4200m), where we camp for the night.
Trek time - 5/6 hours
We ascend towards Matho La (4850m) today, a climb well worth the effort, as we get great views of the Stok Kangri and Matho Kangri from the top. We descend and camp at Matho Phu tonight.
Trek time - 4/5 hours
We break camp today, to descend to the Matho village, a short and easy walk. Your vehicle will pick you up and take you back to Leh, stopping for a short visit at the famed Matho monastery.
Trek time - 3/4 hours
Assisted transfer to the airport for departure.
