What We Love

  • One of the easier 6000m + peaks in India.
  • No requirement of advanced technical skills.
  • Can be done along with other sightseeing trips or at the end of a trekking expedition, like the Markha Trek or Kang Yatse trek.
  • Please note: We recommend attempting the Stok Kangri climb after at least a week in Ladakh.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY
1

Drive from Leh to the village of Stok, from where we start the trek. Trek up to Mankarmo, an easy climb at first, leading to some steep uphill strenuous walks. The highest point of today's walk is around 4900m, from which you descend and camp at 4700m - after 4-5 hours walk.

DAY
2

After breakfast, trek to the Stok kangri base camp(4900m), a gradual ascent which should have you at the next camp by lunch time. Post lunch, walk around the campsite for better acclimatization, preparing yourself for the climb the next day.

DAY
3

You may want to take an extra day at the base camp to acclimatize to the altitude, and spend the day familiarizing yourself with the terrain, speaking with your trek leader, who will train you on the different situations you may face on your climb.

DAY
4

Start your climb at night, while it's still cool, the climb is through glaciers, for which the guides will be there to help you till the summit. There should be day light by the time you reach the summit - and you get breathtaking views of the Karakoram, and the Zanskar ranges.

On a clear day, you can even see Mount Kailash to the east. Descend back to the base camp, this entire climb and descent should take around 9-10 hrs for an average climber, and 2-3 hrs extra for slower climbers. One needs to be careful during the descent so as to not slip and injure oneself. Back at the camp, enjoy a sumptuous meal and get some well deserved sleep.

DAY
5

Return back to Stok village, a downhill 6 hour walk full of interesting places where you can stop to see ruins of castles and old forts. Green meadows dot the landscape as well. Your vehicle will pick you up from Stok, and drive you back to Leh.
