A beautiful trek, the trail follows an old trekking route from Nubra to Leh, over Lasermo La. In ancient times, this route was part of the silk route.
Fly into Leh via one of the most picturesque flights over the high Himalayas. Acclimatize yourself to the high altitude town of Leh, located at 3500m above sea level.
A day of sightseeing is on the cards. Visit the Shey Palace, the erstwhile residence of the royal family of Ladakh. Continue onto the Thiksey monastery complex, very reminiscent of the Potala in its structure. In the afternoon, you may want to explore the bustling bylanes of the local market, where ladies in traditional attire still sell homegrown organic vegetables.
Drive over the Khardung la (18,380 ft), the highest motorable road road in the world to Nubra Valley. Check in to your hotel for much, and visit the sand dunes at Hunder for a ride on the double humped Bactrian camels.
Visit the other side of the Nubra valley today. Visit the 150 year old Samstanling monastery at Sumur village. Return back to visit the Diskit monastery, from where you get a bird's eye view of the valley.
Start your trek by hiking to Skarchen (3800m), along a paved road, through the beautiful Hunder gorge.
Trek time - 4/5 hours
A two hour walk along the gorge gets you to the village of Wachan. From here the trail moves steeply upwards and we cross the villages of Dok Yokma, and follow a well laid out trail through barley fields to Hunder Dok (4010m), where we make camp for the night. The afternoon can be spent visiting the village and observing the simple village life.
Trek time - 3 hours
We follow a small stream and walk onwards through the Thanglasgo valley to a juncture of the Thanglasgo and Sniu Sumdo valleys. Continue to Thanglasgo (4500m) and make camp here, next to the summer pastures for the local sheperds.
Trek time - 4 hours
We follow the stream upwards again towards the Lasermo La base today. On the way we cross green pastures with flowers, small snow fed lakes, where we will see Yaks and Dzos grazing. We reach our highest camp at the Lasermo La base (4800m), where we can relax and enjoy a great view of the snow bound Lasermo La.
Trek time - 4 hours
Start early today, before the sun melts the snow on the mountain - the climb till the top should take you 2-3 hours. The view from the top of Lasermo La (5400m) is unparalleled, with a view of the Karakoram, Ladakh and Zanskar ranges. Descend from here to Phyang Sumdo (4500m) to rest for the night.
Trek time - 7/8 hours
The last day of the trek, we go further downhill to the Murubak pastures, and onwards to Phyang. Meet your vehicle here and drive to Leh for a relaxed evening in bed.
