Birding in Ladakh

Very popular amongst tourists for its surreal landscape, and its cultural richness, Ladakh has been largely unexplored as far as its wildlife in general, and avian fauna in particular, is concerned. The vastness of its lands, along with the fact that its inaccessible for half the year, hides a very diverse avifauna.

This magicial remoteness called the Trans-Himalayas is part of the vast Tibetan plateau. To date, more than 300 birds have been recorded in the region - a mix of altitudinal migrants, summer migrants, and passage migrants. This makes it a special attraction to hard core naturalists and avid bird watchers.
