An easy taster to trekking in Ladakh, the Sham trek takes you through picturesque villages dotted with traditional homestays, as well as stark lunar tracks.
Fly into Leh via one of the most picturesque flights over the high Himalayas. Acclimatize yourself to the high altitude town of Leh, located at 3500m above sea level.
A day of sightseeing is on the cards. Visit the Shey Palace, the erstwhile residence of the royal family of Ladakh. Continue onto the Thiksey monastery complex, very reminiscent of the Potala in its structure. In the afternoon, you may want to explore the bustling bylanes of the local market, where ladies in traditional attire still sell homegrown organic vegetables.
Drive from leh to Likir (3650m), a short distance of 58 kms from Leh to start your trek. The trail today goes alongside the motorable road, and then goes up towards Phobe La (3580m), and ascends further to Chagatse La(3630m). Post this, we reach the village of Yangthang, where we camp for the night.

An easier walk today, we cross the Tsermangchan La (3750m) to descend to the village of Hemis Shukpachan (3600m) - a beautiful village named after cedar trees which are abundantly present here.

A good day trekking, we ascend to the Mebtak La (3750m), and then head down the gorge to Ang, a charming village with apricot orchards, where we camp tonight.
